Beckhams' Run-In With Niblett
-= Rumor Warning =-

The Beckham family had a run-in with Mark Niblett, their former bodyguard which was fired and then wrote a book about them(Story), in the Cottons Hotel's(near Knutsford) liesure club. When they ran into him, the Beckhams including Victoria, David, Victoria's sister Louise and father Tony launched a spree of insults at him. Niblett is aparently a member of the leisure club and often frequents the gym in the afternoon. This was the first time the Beckhams have seen Niblett since he worked for them. A hotel guest said:

"The Beckham party had booked two sunbeds and were waiting around for their turn. Victoria's dad spotted Mark Niblett and a friend working out. Pretty soon the family had gathered by the gym window and started shouting and gesturing at Niblett. As he left the gym the insults continued. At one point it looked like David was going to follow him into the changing room but the leisure club manager managed to calm him down."

Happy New Year everyone! It's been a great year for SpiceNews, looking forward to 2001! Spice Girls, 2001 & Forever.

MelC Interview Translation
Sorry for taking so long to put this up, but below is a translation of the short Latin Mel C interview(Story):

Estuardo Herrera(from Mexico): Where will you put your next tattoo?

That's a very personal question. I think on my arm, if I can find any space.

Valentino(from Chile): Why did you get yourself a gold tooth?

Because I liked the way it looked, I saw it on someone. I liked it and so I bought one for myself.

Claudia Pozo(from La Paz, Bolivia): Do you see your future with the Spice Girls?

I see my future the same way it is now. I like it very much, working with the Spice Girls. But I also like singing as a solo artist. I hope to continue what I'm doing.

Javier Valencia(from Venezuela): Is it true that you have plans on doing something with Bon Jovi?

Yes there were rumors going around that he and I would be working together, but unfortuanatly nothing came out of it. I have always been a fan of Bon Jovi.

Juan(from Buenos Aires, Argentina): I am curious, did you sing with playback audio on the MTV Europe Music Awards? If yes, why?

Yes, like many other artists. Basically because we didn't have time to rehearse. It was easier for us and we had time for a laugh this way.

Thanks Sandra Prieto, Vivian, and Raluca.

Spice Update
From the official Spice Girls mailing list:

hey cyberspicers!

what a year it's been!...but, before we all dash off to cosy down and do our own Christmas stuff with our families, we wanted to say one huge THANK YOU for all your love and support throughout the year...you're the best!!

Just in case you're wondering what we're going to be getting up to over the break, we've all done our own little Christmas lists on the website so you can tune into what makes Christmas Christmas if you're a true Spicer ...can't say we all agreed on stuff like Best Christmas Song or Worst Pressies though!

http://www.spicegirlsforever.co.uk/

..But the really exciting news is that now you can have your say on oour website too!
We're launching two brand new features--a letters page and a review section...and we wanna hear from YOU!!! So, once you've filled your face with Christmas Pud, drop us a mail and let us know how y2k was for you--and, of course, let us know what you think of our new album...and any other stuff that rings your bell

http://www.spicegirlsforever.co.uk/

Dunno about you, but we got tired of licking envelopes and buying stamps yonks ago so we've come up with some cool Spicey e-cards for you to send this Christmas...and a screensaver too...hope you like them (let us know!)

Before we go, we wanted to add a festively spesh competition for you all, so check out our Special Stocking Compo--all you have to do is guess which stocking belongs to which girl, based on its contents--and you could win it!

http://www.spicegirlsforever.co.uk/

But, most importantly of all, millions of Happy Christmas wishes to all of you--you're never far from our thoughts. Have a very special time!

loads of love, peace and girl power

Politician's Spice Joke
British politician of the Tory party Dr. Liam Fox was spreading an offensive joke about Spice Girls at a party yesterday. The joke was:

"What do you call three dogs and a blackbird? The Spice Girls!"

One of the guests at the party said:

"He seemed really pleased with his joke and kept telling it to different groups of people. He just didn't seem to understand it came across as racist and sexist."

Spice Girls publicist Alan Edwards said:

"The Spice Girls would not like to dignify Mr Fox's tasteless joke with any comment. His remarks speak for themselves."

'A source close to the girls' says: "They've been joked about and abused enough over the years to develop a tough skin. But this amazingly crass joke, which is offensive to women and borderline racist, turns their stomachs. People like Mr Fox are the first to pontificate on other people's behavior yet their conduct is clearly suspect. I hope he's proud of himself. And he'd better not bump into any of the girls sometime soon."

After word of the joke hit the media, Fox made this statement:

"In repeating a widely circulated joke I very much regret if anyone was offended. I naturally apologise if any offence was caused."

MelB Christmas Message
Scary Spice Melanie B has a Christmas message in quicktime format on her website.

I totally have zero disk space to put audio/video files on at this point, the account they used to be put on just for a bit until replaced by something new got shut down :( So therefor no local copies on this. So again for the time being, if anyone has any disk space they can loan me that is LEGAL, aka I can legally link files on that server from this page(this does not mean xoom, or tripod, or any of that crap), and that can do AT LEAST 50k/sec, please email me. At the same time I'm working on another resolution for this since it's quite ridiculous for this site not to have any disk space for files.

They spent more than an hour meeting the sick children and chatting with parents and staff. The couple also gave the children some gifts. A hospital spokesman said:

"David and Victoria asked for theirvisit to be kept quiet. Somehow we achieved that. They have given all the youngsters that met them a wonderful boost for Christmas.''

The Posh one yet again has been voted best dressed star of the year in a national Great Britain Poll. She's best known for her unique outfits and trendy style. She's constantly setting new fashion statements whenever I see her ;)

Victoria 'Posh Spice' Beckham edged out runner-up Davina McCall, who is renowned for her plunging neckline at the past Q Awards. Davina might have been a little heated about losing to Victoria, but rest assured the third place winner, David Beckham, Victoria's husband, wasn't.

Beckhams Christmas Gift
The Beckhams played Santa over the weekend for some young cancer victims at the world famous Christie Hospital, in Manchester.

They spent around an hour handing out presents, and just chatting with some who were terminally ill. "The Youngsters were thrilled. It's something they will never forget.", said a spokesman for the Youth Oncology Unit. "David and Victoria asked for the visit to be kept quiet. They didn't want any publicity, but they made everybody's Christmas."

An excited seven-year-old, Rachael Heys, who suffers from a rare soft tissue cancer, had this to say:"David sat with me and even gave me a kiss." Her mum had this to comment, "It was a lovely warm gesture"

Support for Mel C.
Like Mel C. needs any support, but hey, you take what you can get right?! hehe

Dr. Dre, the man who took controversial rapper Eminem under his wing may not respect the troubled all-girl band's music, but he has some good words to say about Mel C., Sporty Spice, -- who has had a year beset with weight and depression problems, as well as the disappointing sales of the Spice Girls's recent third album "Forever."

Here's what he had to say...

"I'm a big fan of the Spice Girls -- but not because of their music! My favorite? I'd have to say Sporty Spice because I hung out with her one night.

"We talked for close to hour in a bar in Hollywood -- just kicking it around.

"I loved her personality."

So who knows maybe we'll see a Dr. Dre, Mel C. Single/album??? Only time will tell.

Mel c. Happy flying solo?
"I'm enjoying my solo work more than the Spice Girls," says Mel C., the popular known as Sporty Spice to millions around the world, to a roomful fans on Thursday night at Toronto's Ted's Wrecking Yard. At the "103.5 Mel C. Christmas Party," as it was being called by the sponsoring radio station, Mel C. played three sets of two songs each. She was accompanied by guitarist/backing vocalist Claire Nicolson, Percussionist Fergus Gerrand and guitarist Paul Gendler. During the breaks between songs she answered questions from around a dozen contest winners.

Inside the club was decorated with red drapes and loads of Christmas ornaments, Melanie Chrisholm stuck to material from her year-old debut album, Northern Star, which has already sold over 2.2 Million copies worldwide. She danced around the stage and on into the night wearing a long-sleeve blue "67" t-shirt and jeans. She stood as confidently as ever at the mike, swinging her hips and singing out "If That Were Me" and "Never Be the Same Again," before stopping to answer yet a few more questions before continuing.

After answering numerous questions regarding her depression, eating disorder, Irish pop stars Westlife, and the recent album with the rest of the Spice Girls, she continued her set with, "Closer" and "Northern Star," and then on the third and final set with, "Be the One" and "Goin' Down," she reflects on her solo accomplishments with this, "I was quite surprised how good I was . . . There's more to me than Sporty Spice."

First I must say sorry for the lack of posting yesterday, I'll make up for it today, Joz hit me the same time I was reloading my home system, so it took a little longer than I hoped to get it back up and running. Anywho, back to the news, oh and if you have any questions/comments send a mail over my way at weazel@spicenews.com

MelC On Forever's Early Results & Future Of Spice
Mel C recently spoke about the girls' reaction to earl Forever success. She said:

"Of course we would've liked it to be more successful. At the end of the day, we haven't worked as hard on the promotional side as we did on the previous two records, mainly because we do want to have a life as well as a career. It's to be expected that if you're going to work your ass off, every day of the year, of course you're going to have more success. We're trying to find balance in our lives now. Two of the girls have got babies, we have solo projects. We're just happy to have a good album, and the fans who have it are enjoying it. As people discover it and get to hear it, it will be more successful in the future. We definitely feel this is the best Spice Girls album ever."

"Next year is probably going to be a year of more solo work. Right now, we haven't got anything planned, specifically, as a group. We're enjoying what we're up to at the moment. Nobody's leaving the band, and we're not splitting up. We're taking a bit of time out and exploring things for ourselves. When we started, we were young and hungry and wanted success. We still want it, but we've now had two, three years of living that crazy life, and we've missed other things a little bit. It's a change of pace for the Spice Girls, that's all."

Spice Farts
Mel B recently talked about Spice Girls farting habits. She says that she and Mel C often hold "bottom burp" sessions and that the whole group can recognise each other's whiffs. Mel B says:

Mel and me are quite free with our bottom burping. Us girls can all identify each other by their smells. We'll be like, 'That one's yours, Mel!' We know each other that well, so you can't get away with anything."

Baby It's Cold Outside MP3
From when Mel C was on the Frank Skinner show(Story): The file quality is mediocre at the start, but improves in qualty significantly about 20% into it. This is because it's actually two MP3s fused together(one person happened to record only the first half, another other only the second, yeah weird coincidences).

Spice Girls Trying To Stop Documentary
Remember that old video footage of Spice Girls while they were living together in Maidenhead, Berkshire?(Story) Well it appears that ITV(UK) is planning on airing it as part of a tell-all documentary about the girls to air next Spring. In one scene Victoria reveals she has the hots for her future husband's Manchester United team-mate Ryan Giggs. Spice Girls are trying to stop this footage from going out claiming that they own the rights to it. A 'ITV insider' says:

"We really want to get this on air, it shows for the first time who the Spice Girls really are. It is raw footage and is fascinating in the light of what the girls became. Not surprisingly they don't want us to show it and solicitors' letters have been flying around. But we really want to put it out."

Spanish site Terra has an interview up with the girls. In the interview the girls talk about their latest album, music on the Internet, shooting videos, and performing concerts. It's in Spanish, but I did a rough translation with Babelfish, and tried to translate it the rest of the way after that, so I can't guarentee it's 100% accurate, perhaps only 92% ;) Anyway here is the local English translation of the interview.

Westlife Bashes Spice Girls (Again)
UK boyband Westlife have bashed Spice Girls again. This time on worldpop, starting with taking about Forever:

"There's a couple of decent tracks on it, Holler and Let Love Lead The Way are OK. And there's one other track called Oxygen but the rest of it is rubbish. They sold about seven copies of Forever in America. That says it all. All I said in the first place was that they aren't as popular as they used to be and then they started to slime us and said that we weren't big in America. Would we sing on a Spice Girls' TV Special? There'll never be one because they're not legends. But you have to give credit to the Spice Girls. At the end of the day they did put England and Ireland back on the map."

There's some interest by a few people in launching a Spice Girls chat that can be unified throughout the Internet and is easy to access. So one has been created! You can connect to it right here! Sky Offers Victoria A Deal
Sky Television(UK) has offered Posh Spice Victoria Beckham a £1 million deal for a two year contract to present a series of 26 entertainment and lifestyle shows. Sky first approached Victoria with the deal this past summer, but now they have finalised their offer. Word is that Victoria doesn't want to commit to it just yet because she is busy working on material for her debut solo album. A 'close friend' says:

"She is really flattered and can see by the amount on offer that they mean business. Victoria is serious about continuing to work as a TV presenter, but she does have a lot of other projects on the go at the moment. In particular she is currently writing songs for her solo album and if more material is to be released she knows the promotional work will really eat into her time and would make a TV job almost impossible. But the deal is very tempting and Victoria is still not sure what to do about it."

Concentrate on the music babe.

Baby Baby Spice Soon?
Emma Bunton is considering getting married early next year to boyfriend Jade Jones. They might be planning to have a child soon after the marriage. In the new issue of OK! Magazine Emma admits that seeing how in love David & Victoria are inspired her own romance, and also says:

"To think that, until a year ago, I was one of those people who say: 'I'm not having children, I'm not getting married, I've got too much to do.' But now I'm really looking forward to it. I love babies. I've always loved children because I'm from a big family with a lot of cousins so I'm really looking forward to it all. I would like to have a family. Being around Brooklyn and Phoenix makes me realise that. I just can't let go of them, they're both so gorgeous."

Jade says:

"We both hope to marry soon. Emma's my girl and I'm so happy with the way things are. When people see us out, they must be able to see how happy we are just to be in each other's company."

The White Version Of MelB
Scary Spice Melanie Brown appears as a white girl in a new commercial against racism airing this week in England. Her skin has been digitally altered, along with the skin of British soccer star David Seaman appearing as a black man, and boxers Lennox Lewis and Naseem Hamed turned white. Crime surveys show that every hour, every day there are four incidents of racial harassment or abuse in Britain, something the Commission for Racial Equality(CRE) is trying to change with a series of television advertisements launched today. The CRE campaign comes in a week when parliament completed measures to make racial discrimination unlawful across all public activities and imposed a duty on public bodies to work for race equality. In her commercial Mel says:

"Would I be more scary if I was white? Racism is everywhere and if we can start admitting it and realising it, then things will begin to get better. It may not be possible to change people's minds overnight, but it's good to start making them more aware."

Here are a couple pics of white MelB:

Thanks lipe.hall & Michael Holden for the pics.

If anybody can get a vidcap MPEG of it please contact me.

MelC worldpop Interview
worldpop has a new video interview with Mel C up. This is the same interview that they based a clip from about Mel denying Spice Girls splitting up from. This is however much longer and more elaborate. In the interview Mel talks about her new single "If That Were Me", about the Spice Girls split rumors obviously, says there will be no Spice Girls tour in 2001 due to time constraints, talks about her next solo album, and her Christmas plans.

Here is a local copy of their watered-down text-transcript.
