MelC Israeli Magazine Interview - 2/4/01

Black Text = Yedioth Newspaper

If you are suffering so much from the tabloids, and the things they are writing about you, why don't you just sue them?

It's very simple, it's because it will take too much time and money! I know a lot of celebs that sued papers because of what they wrote about them, and after it ended, the stories started again. Maybe one day, when I'll have time I'll deal with it...in the mean time, I just don't read papers, because when you are famous, they write a lot of rubbish about you that is not true, and this is your only way to live, I don't even know what they write about me now.

They write that you...

No thanks!

Is there anything that you said throughout your career that you regret?

I did say alot of things I regret...

Like? I'm not going to say, all I can say is that alot of the things people say I said, I didn't, and at the end of the day it's not worth energy to waste on.

You've had some throat problems recently, how are you now?

I'm recovering, I couldn't speak for a few days, but now I'm alright.

You canceled your UK tour, will you peroform in Israel?

Now I'm strong, but the gigs in the UK were too close to my illness, so I had to re-schedule them.

Have you been in Israel before?

No, but I've got a few Israeli friends who are now living in the US.

Do you know whats going on in Israel?

I know that my album is selling brilliantly, and that people really love me there.

And apart from that, do you know anything about the politics and crisis in Israel?

Not so much, I don't read the papers so I really don't know whats goin on.

Great! If you knew, maybe you would have joined the list of artists who canceled their gigs here.

Oh really? What is goin on?

Stuff's goin on, but it's not as horrible as it looks in the media.

That is exactly why I don't read the papers, I know that what they are writting about me is not true, and if it's like that with me, why should it be different with Israel!?

Are you still a Liverpool fan?

Of course! I'll never change my team, it's a rule in the English league.

In the Israeli league as well. Do you go to games?

I used to go a lot, the truth is that I haven't had the chance to go for the past two years, you know, I'm a busy woman and all that.

If you come two days earlier, you'll be able to see a game in Israel.

Uuummm.... the thing is that I'm really on a tight schedule. I'll probably be performing in a another country on the day of the game. The truth is that I won't have a lot of time in Israel, but I'm hoping to see as much as I can.

Is it true that when you were a little girl you dreamed of being a footballer?

That was when I was about eight! It was at a time when I was really fanatic about Liverpool, but it passed, and then I wanted to be a singer.

Will you be singing any Spice Girls songs at the show?

No way! It's my show!

Do you have time to see Victoria and Mel B's babies?

No.

Do you ever find time for your family?

I try, I've got a complicated family. My folks divorced when I was little and I've got five brothers and two sisters, each one of them is a half brother and they all live in different places. I don't get to see them a lot, but I see my mom which lives in Liverpool a lot.

And what about time for yourself?

You need to find time for yourself. I love taking care of myself, and hanging with friends. But I have to work, and it takes up most of my time.

Who is the person you love the most?

My mom.

What do you wish for yourself?

To be happy, healthy, and to continue to be succesfull as a solo artist.
