23rd May EVIL American killer
Charles Manson is just dying to meet pop megababes the
Spice Girls. The Satanic psychopath whose followers
murdered seven people in 1969, including pregnant actress
Sharon Tate, has become a big fan of the fab five. And
sick Manson, 63, has told prison guards that he'd happily
kill himself with a lethal injection if all five Spice
Girls visit him. The drug-crazed weirdo, who befriended
showbiz stars like Beach Boy Dennis Wilson, claimed the
horrific killings had been carried out because of
messages contained in The Beatles song Helter Skelter
which appears on their 1968 double White Album. He
escaped the death penalty but there is little chance of
him ever being released from a high-security Californian
prison. Sources in the jail claim Manson has become a
huge fan of the Spice Girls from seeing their videos on
the satellite music channel MTV. One guard revealed:
"Manson claims that they are his main pleasure in
life now and he'd die a happy man if he could meet them.
"He says he will kill himself with the injection
right after the meeting but he insists that all five of
the Spice Girls come to visit him. He's always liked
young, attractive girls and has become fixated with the
Spice Girls. "He spends hours watching their videos
on television. It's his only pleasure in life." But
the weirdo killer's obsession sickened and horrified Mel
B, Geri and the rest of the girls, who begin an
eight-week American tour next month. Their spokeswoman
said: "This is just too disgusting and horrible for
words. No way will they be going to meet him and they
would not dream of commenting on this." Manson was a
paranoid schizophrenic who used to supply drugs to
Hollywood stars. He had been squatting in Dennis Wilson's
mansion before carrying out the killings. After being
convicted, Manson and his gang were almost executed in
the gas chamber, but their sentences were commuted in
1972 when California ended the death penalty. They are
serving life instead. Friday
22nd May The Spice Girls are planning to film another blockbuster movie but this time they won't be playing themselves. The fab five have just finished the European leg of their sell-out Spiceworld Tour and are desperate to get back in front of the cameras. Now the babes want to play female superstars of the Fifties and Sixties. "I would love to do another movie," explains Victoria. "But as along as it's a glamorous role, I don't care!" The band who brought the world Girl Power may look back to the females who were the founders of their crusade such as Greta Garbo, Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich. Spiceworld: The Movie was a huge global success making around US$ 320 million at the box-office. And the girls feel they could pack cinemas across the world for the second time. "We really loved making Spiceworld," says Mel C. "It was gruelling getting up at 6.30am some mornings which is VERY early for the Spice Girls. "But that wouldn't stop us wanting to do it again." The new film would rake in millions more for the girls who are already worth a whopping = US$ 38million each. But they will only decide to hit the big screen if the script is right rather than star in any old movie because they want to enjoy themselves. "We have to keep a sense of humour," reveals Emma. "Otherwise it becomes very hard to enjoy ourselves. When we did Spiceworld we were screamed at by the cameramen because we were misbehaving. "But we enjoyed making the movie so it didn't bother us." It is still early days for final details to be revealed on any possible new film because the girls are still on tour. The band will be kicking off their American tour on June 15 at the Miami Arena ending at the Starplex in Dallas on August 24. Hollywood actors are already scrambling to get their hands on the hottest tickets in town. The Spice Girls broke into the lucrative US market last year by scoring a No1 hit with debut album Spice. Screen beauty Gwyneth Paltrow, the star of recently-released Sliding Doors is an avid fan. Hollywood couple Bruce Willis and Demi Moore also love the band. Even pop idol Madonna is an admirer, as she is no stranger to the filmworld herself, she may even offer the girls a few tips. Mel B says: "It was a brilliant feeling once we had finished filming and we were so pleased so many people went to see it at the cinema. "The Spice Girls are about performing and we love it!". The movie is planned to start filming at the end of the year. Monday
18th May FURIOUS Welsh Nationalists
have a message to England soccer star David Beckham and
fiancee Posh Spice, who are hunting for a love nest among
the Taffs. They've told the golden couple: "We
really, really, DON'T want you! But if you do come to
Wales, learn Welsh." Man United ace Beckham, 23, and
Spice Girl Victoria, 24, have been spotted house-hunting
in Abersoch - a pretty seaside village in North Wales.
They've already snapped up a £300,000 temporary flat in
the super-rich Cheshire village of Alderley Edge. Now
Abersoch locals believe the pair are buying a luxury home
in the Bwlch Tocyn area on the beautiful Llyn Peninsula.
Local Plaid Cymru councillor Seimon Glyn fumed: "I
suspect they will be using Abersoch as a kind of Monte
Carlo. "Too many people move to Wales without
appreciating they are moving somewhere that has a
different culture. They need to be fully bilingual."
Locals claim wealthy English buyers have snapped up a
string of holiday homes in Abersoch pushing up prices so
young Welsh couples are driven out. Gareth Kiff,
spokesman for the Welsh Language Society, said:
"Rich people are basically using Wales as a
playground. "We are seeing massive immigration into
Wales. It's nothing more than a commercial form of ethnic
cleansing. But local Abersoch councillor and lifelong
Manchester United fan Bryan Evans said: "I would
welcome Beckham he's a good player." Sunday

15th May Mel B has got engaged with
Jimmy Gulzar, one of the dancers on the World Tour. Jimmy
Gulzar proposed to the shocked singer over a candle-lit
dinner in Paris, the capital of romance, on Wednesday
night. The proposal came just days after a topless Mel
was spotted frolicking on the beach with Jimmy during a
break on the French Riviera. Mel, 23, shrieked with
delight as he went down on one knee and presented her
with a diamond engagement ring."I didn't think
anybody would ever ask me!" she cried before
flinging her arms around Jimmy who plays her male double
on the Spice World Tour. Jimmy, 25, sprung his surprise
after another sell-out show in the city. He booked a
midnight table for two at the ultra-chic Buddha Bar, a
subterranean American-Oriental eaterie favoured by
Hollywood stars and supermodels. The pair sat in the
shadow of a 10ft golden Buddha statue in the centre of
the £50-a-head restaurant. Mel, in a revealing black top
and tight trousers with her hair tied into a braid,
arrived first with two minders. Then Jimmy made his
entrance carrying a huge bouquet of white roses. They ate
spring rolls and egg noodles, washed down with two
bottles of vintage champagne. Then Jimmy disappeared to
the toilet before returning with the glittering
engagement ring. "Mel was gobsmacked,".
"Jimmy went down on one knee and opened up the box.
It was the biggest diamond I've ever seen. She was nearly
in tears. She was clapping and shouting. They had been
kissing and giggling through the meal. Obviously, they
are deeply in love." To celebrate, the couple then
went onto the dance floor for a smooch. "They were
very passionate and acted as if there was nobody else in
the place". The couple retired to a private room in
the restaurant. The Leeds-born singer - real name Melanie
Brown - turned to Jimmy after splitting from Icelander
Fjolnir Thorgeirsson, 26, in March. She fell for Jimmy
while performing their dirty dancing routines together.
"He's a good one, really lovely. I'd have to give
him at least 100 out of 10!" joked Mel when they
went public with their romance. Tuesday
12th May Scary spice has become a
mother!!! Mel B has fullfilled one of her ultimate
ambitions by adopting a young African boy under a charity
scheme to help children in developing countries. Mel has
sent the little Kenyan boy pencils amongst other things
and says "the little boy I'm sponsoring doesn't know
who I am. I wonder if he's heard of the Spice
Girls!" Monday
11th May Standby to read ALL about
the Spice Girls... A new book which reveals loads of
secrets and gossip about the five girls is being written
by a former press officer from the group's record label.
"Spiced Out" is due out later this year,
lawyers for the Spice Girls' record label are currently
checking out an early script. There's no comment from the
label themselves. Sunday
10th May The Spice Girls continue to smash more chart records this week in Australia. Never this decade have all the new entries in the top 50 been from the one artist - excluding weeks in which there was only one new entry of course. However, this week, the phenomenon that is the Spice Girls, does just that. A total of two new entries into the top 50 this week, and both are from the Spice Girls. Their single, "Too Much", dived out of the top 50 last week, but it rebounds back to number 40 this week. And the second new entry into the charts is also from the Spice Girls. Another gem of a song lifted from the triple-platinum selling "Spiceworld" album is the Motown-sounding single "Stop" which crashes into the charts at number 11 this week - the second highest chart debut of their career in Australia, beaten only by the number 5 debut of their number 2 hit, "2 Become 1" back in April last year. The music video for "Stop" is filmed in an Irish village and sees the girls dancing in the streets with the locals and appealing to people of all ages. While on the topic of the
Spice Girls, a couple astute readers noticed last week
that when "Too Much" left the top 50, it ended
an amazingly long run of continuous chart presence by the
Spice Girls on the Australian charts. And that is
indeed true. Since their debut at #45 back on the
8th September 1996 with their chart-topper
"Wannabe", the Spice Girls have featured in
every week's top 50 chart in Australia up until the 26th
April 1998. This is a total chart run of 86 weeks. Sunday
10th May Mel B has found the home
that she really, really wants. A six-bedroomed home in
Hampstead, north London. The mansion which has been home
to Liam Gallagher, Sting and Boy George in the past has a
£3.7m price tag, but this has not put Mel B off to say
he least. It is set in its own grounds and boasts
state-of-the-art security, plus a private gym and pool.
Stunning Mel B, recently viewed the house with her new
boyfriend, dancer Jimmy Gulzar. A source said "Mel
went from room to room gasping and saying how much she
loved the place. "Due to her busy schedule, she's
lost out on properties before. But she said she wasn't
going to let this one go." The swanky house is a far
cry from the three bedroomed Leeds Semi where Mel B grew
up. She is keen to follow the example of the other Spice
girls, who are investing their fortunes in property. Thursday
7th May BRAVE Mellissa Gordan, who
had to miss a Spice Girls concert so she could undergo a
life-saving kidney transplant, was full of smiles today
after Wednesday
6th May In part of the Spice Girls
continuing assault on corporate America, the pop girl
group and Polaroid have signed a deal that will bring the
SpiceCam, a Spice Girls version of the photo company's
OneStep camera, to America. The camera, which has been
marketed in Europe, Asia and Australia, shoots for the
group's target audience of teens and pre-teens with its
neon "Girl Power" colours and enclosed Spice
Girls stickers, although the relatively hefty price tag
of $39.99 means that young fans wanting to snap a pic
with their own SpiceCam will have to save up their fair
share of pocket money. Wednesday
6th May In less friendlier
commercial Spice Girls news, an anti-fur protester hurled
a pie at Victoria Adams, Posh Spice, last week as she was
leaving a taping of the Channel 4 programme "TFI
Friday," produced by Ginger Productions according to
a leading UK Newspaper. Adams was not struck by the pie
and was quickly escorted from the scene. Saturday
2nd May Posh Spice Victoria Adams
is planning a wacky touch when she marries soccer star
David Beckham - by having geese wandering in the garden.
the singer said she was keen on the idea after it was
suggested by co-ordinators designing the couple's big
day. "All the fancy stuff, the things you see in
films - that's what I want," she told presenter
Chris Evans on the UK's Channel 4's TFI friday last
night. Asked why she was so keen on geese, she said:
"They just look good, don't they?" The Spice
Girls appeared live on the programme in a show specially
dedicated to the group. Evans had been scathing about
them because he was so impressed by their live shows
earlier this month. Emma Bunton - Baby Spice - disclosed
that the girls had turned up at the studios more than two
years ago asking to be on, byt the presenter turned them
down, claiming they would never last. How wrong could he
be! Evans interviewed each of the girls separately and
tacked Mel C about why she did not have a boyfriend.
"The truth is that I'm really not that bothered at
the moment," she said. She also discolosed that she
had spent her day off on Thursday consulting a
spiritualist who claimed that they were really big things
for the Spice Girls in the future. Thursday

20th April New York's Attorney
General has launched an investigation into the Spice
Girls sell-out concert at Madison Square in June. Dennis
Vacco is "appalled" that all 13,000 tickets
were sold in twelve minutes ans suspects touts have made
mass purchases. Parents are understandably funing,"
said his spokesman Jow Mahoney. The Attorney General will
contact box-office officials today to find out why the
seats sold so quickly. The amazing sell-out for the Spice
Girls first New York City appearance left many
disappointed parents and their children in tears. The New
York post today said tickets are already on the black
market for US $700 (UK £416). Sunday
19th April The Spice
Girls have powered their way to the top of Britain's pop
earnings charts scooping an incredible £54.3million last
year. That's more than a million a WEEK or £103 a
MINUTE! Wealthy Spice became top of the wads by KICKING
aside old fogeys like Paul McCartney and the Rolling
Stones, rock's finance bible has revealed. Mega
advertising and merchandising deals bolstered their
recording and film dosh to give them the fattest annual
wage packet of any British act-including the Beatles.
Showbiz money guru Cliff Dane, who disclosed the amazing
figures in his annual Rock Accounts, declared last night:
"It's a staggering success. The Spice Girls are the
pop sensation of the decade." Even as he spoke,
tickets to the fantastic five's first US concert at New
York's Madison Square Garden sold out in just TWELVE
MINUTES. The girls scary wedge is made up of £25.2m
album royalties, £3.4m from singles. £10.7m from
songwriting, £10m from product sponsorship and £5m from
merchandising and appearances. After deducting 20 per
cent management commission, they are left with
£43million. The Spice little earner compares with the
Stones' estimated £3l mlllion and the Beatles £26
million. Striking a blow for their famous Girl Power, the
feisty five sacked their manager Simon Fuller half way
through the 1997 financial year and now run themselves.
That means they should keep even MORE of their cash this
year. Their money-makers in 1997 included their movie
Spiceworld which bagged £ll million and the album from
it which has currently sold 10 million copies in five
months. But it is their shrewd sponsorship and
advertising deals that set them apart from the rest. Last
Christmas sales of Spice Girl dolls rivalled the
Teletubbies Dolls in the UK. The pop princesses have also
their name to Pepsi, Walkers Crisps, Asda supermarkets,
Cadbury's chocolate, UK TV's Channel Five and even
lollipops. They have cleverly set up four separate
companies to control their fortune called Spice Girls
Touring, Spice Girls Productions, Spice Girls
Merchandising and Spice Girls perfumes. They each also
have their own wackily named firms. Liverpool fan
Sporty's is Red Girl, Baby's is Fijou, Ginger's is
Firecracker, Posh's is aptly named Moody and Scary called
hers Money Spider. Their fairytale began when Emma Bunton
(Baby) Mel C (Sporty) Mel B (Scary) Geri Halliwell
(Ginger) and Victoria Adams (Posh) answered an ad in
March 1995. They were launched as a band and their first
album Spice racked up, 18 million sales joint fifth best
of the Nineties in the UK. Victoria, now 23, was already
well-off. But money is a new thrill for Geri, 25, and Mel
B, 22-both raised in semis-milkman's daughter Emma, 22,
and council house girl Mel C, 23. And while you've been
reading this story they've notched up at least another
£300! Friday
17th April The Spice
Girls dropped by for afternoon tea with the Prince of
Wales and his son Prince Harry. The five stars flew in to
the prince's Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire by
helicopter at about 4.40pm yesterday. After touching down
on the landing pad near the Cotswold mansion, the group
hurried inside on a cold and wet afternoon. With Prince
William preparing for a new term at Eton, it was left to
13-year-old Harry to play host to the group, whom he
first met in South Africa last year. As well as being a
treat for the young prince, it is thought the visit is a
thank you for the help the pop stars have given to the
Prince's Trust. The five, currently in the middle of a
sell-out series of Wembley Arena concerts, first met
Charles at a trust concert in Manchester last May.
Outside the main gates to the estate, a group of about 50
Spice fans, some with binoculars, braved the bitter
conditions hoping to catch a glimpse of their idols. The
Spice Girls left the Highgrove estate by helicopter at
6.40pm after spending two hours with Prince Charles and
Prince Harry. Monday
13th April SPICE Girl
Geri has lined up a 50th birthday present her mum will
never forget - a £20,000 facelift. Generous Ginger has
offered Anna Maria a revolutionary SEVEN-HOUR operation
to make her look 15 years younger. Spanish-born Anna
plans to have facial contouring, which is only available
in the States. It costs six times more then an ordinary
facelift and is a series of mini-ops. Anna, who used to
work as a cleaner in Watford, Herts, has already been
given a house and a car by her daughter. Geri, 25, is
very close to her mum and credits her with her success.
Anna raised Geri, her sister Natalie and brother Max
following the death of the star's dad, Steve. And Sexy
Spice is no stranger to cosmetic surgery herself. She
regularly has collagen injections at London's Harley
Street toenhance her pout. Last week in Manchester,
excited Geri revealed her mum's birthday surprise to
pals. One said: "Geri told her mum she could have
anything she wanted and that's what they came up with.
She will have the most glamorous mum in the
business." Meanwhile, tickets for the Spice Girls
autumn shows at Wembley and Sheffield's non Valley sold
out yesterday. Wednesday

5th April OPERA star
Luciano Pavarotti is getting in shape for a date with the
Spice Girls. They have agreed to sing at the Italian
star's annual charity show in aid of the Bosnian charity
War Child in his home town of Modena in June. Sunday
5th April A dazzling
display of girl power was hitting Glasgow last night as
the Spice Ctirls set out to prove they are still the
queens of pop. The Fab Five brought their Spice World
tour to the gigantic SECC Arena to thrill over 9,000 fans
with a futuristic stage show straight out of Star Wars.
It was their first live performance in the UK since
storming to the top of the charts with Wannabe 18 months
ago. And Sporty and the girls are not only answering
their critics with some stylish dance routines and
powerful vocals but also showing newcomers All Saints
exactly what they'll need to do if they want to steal
their pop crown. The £l million spectacle was opening
with the girls emerging from five giant Spice World video
screens and launching into a high-energy melody featuring
If You Can't Dance and Who Do You Think You Are? Wails of
delight threatened to blow the lid off this huge arena as
the girls returned to sing Naked, looking for all the
world as if they were wearing no clothes at all -
although the cheeky pop stars were sporting flesh
coloured body stockings. After a steamy routine with the
hunky "Spice Boys" backing group, the biggest
girl band in the world take on the role of Sixties divas
for the latest single, Stop, and a catwalk performance of
the Spice anthem Move Over. The highlight of the show is
a full-on conga for Spice Up Your Life, followed by the
two Mels blasting out a stunning version of the Aretha
Franklin Girl Power anthem Sisters Are Doing It For
Themselves. The costumes for the finale have to be seen
to be believed as all five girls boogie their way through
their disco classic Never Give Up On The Good Times. Saturday
4th April The Spice
Girls have just won an award in Holland, they gained the
crown by seeing off Backstreet Boys and Hanson for the
BEST INTERNATIONAL POP GROUP, this was at the The Music
Factory(TMF) Awards. This is equivlant to the MTV awards,
and is an award voted by the public! This proves that it
is just executives who want the Spice Girls knocked off
the top, if it was up to the PEOPLE, they would become
immortalized. Saturday
4th April Pop queens
The Spice Girls get their chance to stop the doubters
tonight by finally proving they can sing at their first
UK show after 20 months of chart domination. The Feb Five
have brought girl power - as well as their families and
partners - to Glasgow's SECC for the first of 20 British
dates. The UK leg of the world tour visits four arena
venues and will be the longest stretch they have spent in
Britain for more than a year. Their spokeswoman said last
night: "They're very happy to be home." The
girls flew in from Germany on Thursday night on a high
note. Their final German gig, in Dortmund, was their
favourite show so far, their spokeswoman said.
"They're just getting better and better all the
time," she added. The group - who have notched up
six UK number ones including Wannabe and Spice Up Your
Life -- have been constantly on the road in Europe since
the start of March but are said to be thriving on the
schedule. "They're not too tired. They're playing
two nights on and two nights off. They're very happy and
really enjoying touring and they're suffering no stress
whatsoever. "They're obviously working hard but
they're relaxing on their days off," said the
spokeswoman. "They've changed a couple of their
dance routines for the UK and altered a couple of the 11
costumes changes."After the UK they're going to the
States and Canada for three months. After two nights in
Glasgow the tour moves on to Manchester's Nynex for four
concerts and eight nights at London's Wembley Arena. The
British leg ends on May 6 after six nights at the NEC in
Birmingham. Friday
